John Eustace targets Birmingham City transfer reunion at Derby County
Dion Sanderson is expected to depart Birmingham City during the summer transfer window
John Eustace’s Derby County are reportedly targeting a move for Birmingham City defender Dion Sanderson.
Sanderson is expected to depart St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park this summer after falling out of favour under manager Chris Davies.
Despite starting last season in Blues’ starting XI, Sanderson quickly lost his place to eventual Player of the Year Christoph Klarer and was loaned out to Blackburn Rovers in January.
Blues have already added Phil Neumann to their defence during the close season and another centre-back is expected to arrive to form a quartet. BirminghamLive understands there is interest in re-signing Ben Davies from Rangers after his successful loan spell.
Sanderson will be allowed to depart two years after joining Blues from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a £2million transfer.
Unsurprisingly, Derby – who are now managed by Eustace – are said to be keen on signing Sanderson this summer.
Eustace worked with Sanderson at Queens Park Rangers and Blues, and he was in charge at Blackburn when they signed the 25-year-old in January.
Sanderson made 12 appearances in the Championship on loan at Blackburn last term, having made just two appearances for Blues in League One before Christmas.
