Darragh MacAnthony has confirmed that one side in particular are pushing hard to sign Peterborough United winger Kwame Poku this summer, amid links with Birmingham City - and he considers that, for Poku, it could be the 'move of his life'.

Despite having an unfortunate season as far as fitness goes, Poku has remarkably still returned highly impressive numbers; he played 31 games in all competitions, but still returned 12 goals and 11 assists, averaging a goal contribution every 1.4 matches.

Posh confirmed on Tuesday that Poku would be leaving the club upon the expiry of his contract, a deal he signed back in 2021 when making the move from Colchester United to London Road. They couldn't tempt him into agreeing fresh terms and he leaves along with Ricky-Jade Jones and Hector Kyprianou.

Because Poku remains under 24 until August, and because he is almost certain to have found a new club by then, any interested side will have to agree a compensatory fee with Posh, which can otherwise be determined via a tribunal. For Posh, the more sides interested in Poku in the next month or two the better.

Posh chairman MacAnthony has revealed that there is one side among plenty of others who are extremely keen on Poku, who scored against Blues this past season, and they are a side who could find themselves in the top flight in 12 months' time - a profile of which Blues fit the bill.

"I don't think so," MacAnthony told the Hard Truth podcast. "There are 30-odd clubs who want Kwame - one in particular, who are really going all out. I think if he went there, it is probably the best move of his life, and he could be going to the Premier League in a year's time.

"Then [once they have tribunal clarity] we'll get to work. When we see off those players, we'll start talking to those clubs because they won't want to go to a tribunal as much as we do. It's unpredictable and it will go in our favour in a big way.

"The problem with tribunals is that they have to pay all the money up front. You get told [what to pay]. We also have other things that are happening as well. We will try and still do business, we want to sell and bring money in but I'd sell my wedding ring to sign the right player."

Posh, according to reports, are keen on non-league forward Kyrell Lisbie - son of former Charlton Athletic striker Kevin - by way of a replacement; Lisbie, 21, plays for National League side Braintree, for who he scored 11 goals last term and, it would appear for Posh, he could be a potential replacement for the outgoing Poku.
