Stoke City fans react as winless streak goes on after loss to Robins

Relegated two seasons ago now from the Premier League, Stoke City were seen by many as favourites to bounce straight back up. That wasn’t to be.

Instead, the Potters bobbled about that first season in the Sky Bet Championship, finishing in mid-table rather than close to the top where many had been predicting them to be. This season, their second in the second tier, has seen them being treated like a ‘tomato can’ boxer being put in front of a hot prospect.

In this scenario, Stoke City are on the ropes and being battered from pillar to post and they are picking up more than their fair share of licks along the way. Opponents have dispensed with the customary jab-jab-jab approach and are winging in haymakers at every opportunity.

Today it was Bristol City’s turn to come back from 1-0 down to have Stoke City reeling to their fourth consecutive loss, their sixth in just seven games. That disastrous run of misfortune leaves them sharing bottom spot in the table with Huddersfield Town, Stoke bottom on goal difference.

A 4th-minute Sam Clucas opener was enough for the men from the Potteries to hold a 1-0 lead at half-time. However, a 12th-minute red card for Joe Allen meant that Stoke were playing the majority of the game with just 10 men. A seven-minute spell in the second-half, where the Robins took the lead through Famara Diedhiou (55′) and Thomas Edwards (62′ OG), proved pivotal.

It now leaves Stoke facing an early problem, an opening-season struggle to pull away from the bottom of the pile amidst dreadful form. It’s a situation that had some of their fans commenting on Twitter and here’s what they had to say.

Whilst it is still early in the season, Stoke City fans might be right to worry that if improvement doesn’t come around soon then it might very well be a season of struggle up ahead.
