In the past couple of seasons, Reading FC have been somewhat of a stagnant force in the transfer market, giving other clubs the opportunity to create a gulf in squad strength and essentially climb the Championship table.
At the start of this summers transfer window, the club was said to be under a transfer embargo according to Sky Sports writer Simeon Gholam, with any dealings set to be minimal.
But out of the blue the Royals paid £7.5m for Inter Milan’s Romanian international striker George Puscas (23), causing murmurings of “where is the money coming from?”
Reading FC reporter Jonathan Low elaborates on the above…
“They had next to no money at the start of the window and the club was under a transfer embargo, so we were led to believe any deals would be minimal.”
Adding to this Low explains…
“The club is still counting the costs of past mismanagement and financially they were struggling, but they appear to have steadied the ship somewhat. The deal is also reportedly in instalments, so it’s not as simple as a £7.5million fee upfront.”
It appears that agent connections are the main catalyst for the move, with Kia Joorabchian becoming more of an influence at The Madejski Stadium, with Low explaining in further detail what effect his influence is having…
“Joorabchian has been behind a number of transfer dealings at Reading over the past six to nine months,” explains Low. “Reading were after a striker all summer and they managed to fight off a number of other clubs who were keen on his signature.
“Joorabchian is also well connected at Inter and he managed to get the deal over the line in the final few days of the window. There were some issues with Palermo too, who were due to sign him, but financial issues meant they were unable to strike a deal.”
So maybe it appears that Reading are either working blood out of the stone that is their account or Joorabchian is indeed working some minor miracles… either way, things could be looking up for the Royals fans.
