Why Everton’s Mason Holgate would be the perfect fit for West Brom

We reported yesterday that West Bromwich Albion were looking to re-sign Everton’s Mason Holgate on loan for next season.

The Baggies are also closing in on the £1.5million capture of QPR’s right back Darnell Furlong but it is believed that this would not cool their interest in Holgate.

The 22-year-old defender became a firm fans’ favourite in his time at the Hawthorns where he spent the second half of last season on loan.

The youngster impressed the Baggies supporters with his work rate, pace and technical ability and many fans are desperate to see him don the blue and white stripes once more.

Holgate would be an ideal fit for West Brom as they look to add some quality additions to their backline following the departures of Craig Dawson to Watford and the return of Tosin Adarabioyo to parent club Manchester City.

The England Under-21 international has plenty of experience for someone so young and is more than capable at Championship level. He scored one goal for the Midlands side last season and was adept at crossing the ball without being frightened of taking opposition defenders on.

Everton boss Marco Silva is currently deciding whether Holgate will be a part of his first team plans but another year at Championship level will undoubtedly do Holgate the world of good.

He is still only 22-years-old so he has plenty of time to make the step up to regular football in the Premier League. It is clear that he isn’t a pivotal figure at Everton whereas with West Brom he was adored by the Baggies faithful and a regular on the teamsheet.

Holgate expressed to the Albion fans how much he enjoyed his time on loan at the club and with West Brom interested once more, a move to the Hawthorns could certainly be on the cards.
