Former Blackburn Rovers boss makes return to football in Greece

Former Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean has returned to football as the director of recruitment at Greek side OFI Crete.

The 51-year-old has joined the side who are currently 13th in the Greek Superleague, as per a report by The Mirror.

Kean made his name during a spell at Blackburn from December 2010 to September 2012. He couldn’t prevent the Ewood Park club from relegation from the Premier League and left them a few months later despite being 3rd in the Championship at the time.

After retiring from his playing days, Kean held coaching roles at Reading, Fulham, Real Socieded and Coventry City as assistant manager to Chris Coleman. He moved to Blackburn, initially as a coach, in 2009.

Kean joined Singapore Premier League side DPMM FC in October 2013 and spent three years as manager there. He had a successful time in Asia and won the league and the league cup before leaving at the end of their 2017 season, a year before his contract was due to expire.

DPMM FC are now managed by former Welling United, Forest Green Rovers, Gillingham and Barrow boss Adrian Pennock. The 47-year-old took the job at the end of their 2018 campaign.

Kean will be looking forward to his new role at OFI Crete. They were promoted to the Greek top flight last season after winning the second tier title.

They play at the Theodoros Vardinogiannis Stadium, which has a capacity of 9,000. Crete is now also the home to former West Bromwich Albion and Peterborough United attacking midfielder Adil Nabi, who signed for them last month.
