Tiger Woods is set to tee it up at the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla this week.

He is still playing through the pain as he recovers from ankle surgery that was needed after a life-threatening car crash in 2021.

The PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Course starts on Thursday and Woods is set to be in action again.

Last year, the 15-time major winner revealed he was hoping to play in one event per month as he aims to manage the workload on his ankle.

He played in The Masters last month and hasn’t taken to the course since, meaning he is fit, rested and ready for the PGA Championship.

However, Woods tempered expectations over his performance after being quizzed on how the course will suit his body.

“Well, I wouldn't say the walk's that difficult,” Woods said of Valhalla. “I know it's a long walk, it's a big piece of property. More than anything, just stay out of the rough. This is a big golf course, and if you get in the rough here, yeah, things could get a little bit sore, but if I drive it well and do the things I need to do and what I did 24 years ago, hopefully it works."

“Yeah, I can still hit shots,” Woods added.

“It's getting around is more of the difficulty that I face, day-to-day and the recovery of pushing myself either in practice or in competition days. You saw it at Augusta. I was there after two days and didn't do very well on the weekend.”

Woods is targeting the majors, with the US Open taking place in June and then The Open Championship in July.

Woods continues to play through pain and after four rounds at Augusta, he will be hoping that he has recovered well.

He revealed he would be doing some research on the next three major courses after The Masters, saying: “I’m going to do my homework going forward at Pinehurst, Valhalla and Troon.”

And after his visit to the Valhalla in Kentucky, he is now confirmed to be playing.

It doesn’t mean he will be pain-free though, as last month he admitted that he still struggles on every round.

Woods said: "Every shot that is not on a tee box is a challenge - once we start the hole, it's a bit of a challenge.

"The ankle doesn't hurt anymore. It's fused. It's not going anywhere. So that's fine. It's other parts of my body that now have to take the brunt of it.

"The back, the knee, other parts of the body have to take the load of it and just the endurance capability of walking a long time and being on my feet for a long time (is an issue).

"Things just flare up. The training that we have to do at home, it changes from a day-to-day basis. Some days I just feel really good and other days not so much. I hurt every day.”
