Crystal Palace vs West Ham United predictions

Crystal Palace are almost there. Eight points clear of the relegation zone ahead of this game against West Ham United, one more victory would allow them to begin drawing up plans for another season of Premier League football.

In truth, they might not even require another win. Last weekend’s surprise 1-0 defeat of Liverpool at Anfield has given Palace a buffer above the bottom three that may well be sufficient even if they were to lose all their remaining matches.

Oliver Glasner’s side turned in an excellent display on Merseyside last time out. They played some lovely football in the first half, then defended manfully to keep Liverpool at bay after the interval.

This season has brought its fair share of discontent on the Selhurst Park terraces, but a feeling of optimism has been restored to this corner of south London.

From the get-go Glasner looked like an astute appointment. The Austrian has already brought about an upturn in performances, notwithstanding a couple of underwhelming displays here and there.

Palace spent more money than any other Premier League club in January, including £22m on Adam Wharton. That already looks like a bargain.

More funds should be available in the summer and Palace fans rightly have confidence in the sporting director Dougie Freedman, whose work at Selhurst has made him a target for Manchester United.

Off the pitch, Palace have taken a huge step towards starting work on their revamped Main Stand this week after signing an agreement to fund community improvements. The project could be completed in 2027.

As far as this weekend is concerned, Michael Olise is back fit again and Ebere Eze is also off the treatment table, with both players having missed parts of the campaign through injury.

Things are looking up at Crystal Palace once more.

Crystal Palace vs West Ham United betting tips

Home advantage could be a factor when Crystal Palace face West Ham United this weekend.

Crystal Palace to win - 23/20 (Betfred)

With the threat of relegation having receded, Crystal Palace should be able to play with a little more freedom on Sunday.

That sort of approach promises to bring the best out of the aforementioned Eze and Olise, two players who will be on the shopping lists of several big clubs this summer.

West Ham are likely to be feeling flat after their elimination from the Europa League on Thursday. David Moyes’ men gave the second leg a good go, but a 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen saw them exit with a 3-1 defeat on aggregate.

Tiredness could also be a factor. Paace have played six games since the start of March compared to West Ham’s 11. That sort of workload may eventually take its toll.

The Hammers looked to play on the front foot against Leverkusen last time out, much to the delight of their supporters.

But they could revert to type away from home this weekend, potentially giving Palace the edge.

Over 2.5 goals - 8/11 (Betfred)

West Ham fans are divided over whether Moyes should be handed a new deal in east London.

The Scot has undoubtedly brought success to the club during his second spell in charge, but many feel his pragmatic style of football is not suited to the current crop of players at his disposal.

Yet for all the stereotypes about Moyes, West Ham have not actually defended very well this term. Only the bottom three have conceded more goals, while the Hammers rank 18th for expected goals against.

Recent meetings between these two teams have often been entertaining. Palace won this fixture 4-3 last season, while 10 of the last 14 head-to-head clashes have yielded at least three goals.

This is a London derby that usually delivers and Sunday’s edition should do too.

Back over 2.5 goals at 8/11 with Betfred

Michael Olise to score any time - 2/1 (Betfred)

In the 1-0 victory over Liverpool, Olise was handed his first start since January.

This has been a frustrating season for the France Under-21 international, but he will hope that his injury problems are finally behind him.

Olise showed flashes of his quality at Anfield, but he only lasted on the field for 68 minutes.

The silky winger should get closer to completing the full 90 against West Ham, against whom he scored a wonderful last-minute winner in November 2022.

Despite spending a large chunk of the campaign on the sidelines, no one has scored more goals for Palace in the Premier League than Olise.

The former Reading man return has put the ball in the back of the net on six occasions - not a bad return for a player who has only been included in nine starting line-ups.

Choose Michael Olise as an anytime scorer at 2/1 with Betfred
